Arrows and Smiles

  • March 16, 2023

“When I launched Kivun, my branding business, thirteen years ago, I didn’t have a single friend or relative who was a business owner,” says Perry Aush. “I felt so alone.”

A few years later, she saw an ad for Temech’s third annual conference. “I eagerly attended — and found dozens of women just like me. Entrepreneurs and business owners who understood my struggles, who had scaled the same mountain I was climbing.”

The conference was so eye-opening that Perry regretted the two earlier ones she’d missed. As soon as she got home, she made a note in her calendar to get the date for the conference the following year.

She need not have worried. Long before the next conference, Temech invited her to other workshops and lectures.

“There was advice, support, information. The workshops addressed dilemmas I faced all the time.

“Before I came to Temech, I knew a single business coach who had a narrow expertise. Suddenly, I met a slew of experts, each with a different specialty. There was so much I could — and slowly did — tap into.”

There was the time that Perry had expanded and hired an employee. After a short while, the employee asked for a raise, but Perry sensed that she wanted something beyond money.

“That week I attended a Temech lecture about managing staff. Afterwards, I asked the lecturer if I could pick her brain, and she graciously agreed. I described what was happening, she asked a few pointed questions.

“On the spot, she showed me that my employee wasn’t getting enough challenging tasks and she was simply bored. I shifted things, and my employee was much happier.”

Perry and a colleague ran Temech’s very first networking group. “I’d seen networking events in the secular world and wanted to bring it into our community. I believe every woman should be able to grow professionally without ever sacrificing her values. I asked Temech if they’d host it. They agreed immediately, and helped us every step of the way.”

Over time, the networking groups became one of Temech’s signature services, and today, Perry is running a group dedicated to designers. “It’s the highlight of my month,” she shares.

Things came full circle when Temech asked Perry to redesign their logo. “It was a challenge. Their original logo was well known, and I wanted to hold on to elements of it, but it was time for something bolder and trendier.”

Perry took the arrow from the original logo and paired it with a smile to create the current logo. “I wanted to focus on the positivity that characterizes Temech, and also show how they enable women to grow and reach higher.”

She swapped the original navy for a vibrant blue, and paired it with electric shades of color, one for each of Temech’s many programs.

Once, Perry felt utterly alone professionally. Today, she’s an integral part of the organization that showed her that there are thousands just like her — and there’s a place for them all.
